Fight Club

The fight you are in....within

The moment you became a believer, you became a member of the "FIGHT CLUB." And, the fights are spiritual, relational, and real! So, you had better learn how to "fight right" and "win." Join us this month at Mission Point as we train to fight against our spiritual enemy and learn how not to fight and make enemies of our family and friends. Whether you are just entering the ring, on the ropes, or going down for the count, this practical, biblical, relational, and research-based series will give you the tools you need to become "more than conquerors" in Christ.

THE FIGHT YOU ARE IN...WITHIN

“What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you?”

James 4:1 (NLT2)

“I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God’s law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Romans 7:21-25a (NLT2)

“So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.”

Galatians 5:16-17

“When you follow the desires of your sinful nature [your natural, fallen, and sin-filled self], the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

“...this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control...Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.”

Galatians 5:22-26 (NLT2)

FIGHT BASICS:

1. YOU HAVE AN ENEMY.

“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”

1 Peter 5:8 (NLT2)

YOUR ENEMY’S SOLE PURPOSE IS TO…

“...to steal and kill and destroy.”

John 10:10 (NLT2)

FIGHT BASICS:

2. LEARN YOUR ENEMY’S TACTICS

“The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the LORD God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’”

“You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”

The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.”

Genesis 3:1-6 (NLT2)

OUR ENEMY’S TACTICS:

a)  He Gets us to question the Word of God

b)  He gets us to question the consequences if we disobey the Word

c)  He gets us to question the motives of God

d)  He convinces us to believe and do wrong things and to lead others in the same

“Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.”

2 Corinthians 4:4 (NLT2)

FIGHT BASICS:

3.FIGHT YOUR ENEMY WITH THE RIGHT WEAPONS

“We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.”

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NLT2)

“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”

Ephesians 6:10-12 (NLT2)

“…put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.

Ephesians 6:13ff

“Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth

“…and the body armor of God’s righteousness.”

“For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.”

“In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.”

“Put on salvation as your helmet,”

“…take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

…Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion.”

“Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers  for all believers everywhere.”

Ephesians 6:17b-18 (NLT2)

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

Joshua 1:7-8 (NLT2)

“How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word.  I have tried hard to find you— don’t let me wander from your commands.  I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

Psalm 119:9-11 (NLT2)

“…you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”

2 Timothy 3:14-17 (NLT2)
