KINGS

Week 4

CHRIST THE KING

PILATE CALLED HIM KING…

“JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

John 19:19 (NIV)

THE THIEF OF THE CROSS CALLED HIM KING:

“Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”

Luke 23:42 (NLT2)

THE PROPHETS CALLED HIM KING:

“This took place to fulfill the prophecy that said, “Tell the people of Israel, ‘Look, your King is

coming to you. He is humble, riding on a donkey— riding on a donkey’s colt.’”

Matthew 21:4-5 (NLT2)

THE RELIGIOUS REJECTED HIM AS KING:

“...Pilate said to the people, “Look, here is your king!” “Away with him,” they yelled. “Away

with him! Crucify him!” “What? Crucify your king?” Pilate asked. “We have no king but

Caesar,” the leading priests shouted back.”

John 19:14b-15 (NLT2)

THE WISE MEN CALLED HIM KING:

“Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some

wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.”

Matthew 2:1-2 (NLT2)

THE ANGELS CALLED HIM KING:

“In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you." Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.  But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."

Luke 1:26-33 (NIV)

HAVE YOU SAID THESE WORDS TO YOUR KING?

“I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.”

Luke 1:38 (NLT2)

OUR KING’S KINGDOM IS NOT OF THIS WORLD:

"My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place." "You are a king, then!" said Pilate. Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."

John 18:36-37 (NIV)

WHAT OUR KING IS LIKE:

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.”

Isaiah 9:6-7a (NIV)

THAT'S MY KING, DR. S.M. LOCKRIDGE

THE WAY TO THE KING AND HIS KINGDOM:

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.  There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?   When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.  And you know the way to where I am going.”   “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”  Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

John 14:1-6 (NLT2)
