RANDY SMITH

ELDER

My Role:

My wife Lori and I have been part of Mission Point Church since 1996. When we first started attending, the church was still called Calvary Baptist Church. Over the years, we've walked through two name changes - first to Calvary Bible Church and eventually to Mission Point - and it’s been a privilege to watch God faithfully guide our church family through each season.

This is actually my second time serving as an Elder. I previously served for almost twenty years, and stepping back into this role again feels familiar, deeply meaningful and daunting. I love supporting our pastor, staff and volunteers, caring for people, and helping our church stay grounded in Scripture as we follow where God leads.

My Story:

I grew up in Ocean City, and that’s where I met Lori. We started dating in high school, got married in 1982 after graduating from college, and we have been building a life together ever since. God has blessed us with two grown children - Garrett and Carli - and six grandchildren who bring more joy than we ever could have imagined.

Lori and I were not Christians when we got married. In 1989, God graciously drew both of us to Himself, and our lives changed completely. Our faith has shaped our marriage, our parenting, and the way we see the world. Looking back, we can clearly see God’s hand in every step.

Passions:

My greatest passion is my family. I love spending time with Lori - whether we’re traveling, riding bikes together, walking, talking, cooking, eating, watching a movie or just enjoying a quiet evening together. After all these years, our relationship continues to grow, and I’m grateful for every moment. Time with our children and grandchildren is one of the biggest blessings in my life.

I enjoy staying active, especially riding my road bike, lifting weights or going to the beach. I’m also a reader - everything from Christian books to history, leadership, finance/investing and personal development. Music has always been part of my life too, especially jazz and the Grateful Dead.

I really enjoy cooking, whether I’m experimenting with something new or making a meal for family. God’s Word and the input of fellow believers continues to shape my walk with Christ and deepen my desire to serve Him and His church.
