What kind of church is Mission Point?
We understand that finding a church can be scary! Walking into an unfamiliar place, filled with new faces and new practices can be pretty confusing and unsettling for a first-time guest. That’s why we created this page; to answer your questions and give you a small glimpse of what to expect during your visit with us.
Below you will find a number of common questions that people just like you have asked about our church. Take a moment to explore them and if you need any further information, do not hesitate to contact us.
Mission Point is a young, contemporary, evangelical, and non-denominational church. We are an independent church that is proud to be a church “for our time” that holds tightly to the “timeless” teachings of the Bible. For more information about our doctrines, philosophies, and beliefs, you can check What We Believe.
No. Because we are a casual church you don’t have to wear suits, ties, or dresses (unless, of course, you want to!). The only thing we ask is that you be comfortable and modest. Your jeans and sneakers will feel right at home here.
Our service begins at 10 am, and usually runs about an hour and 15 minutes. You are welcome to come at 9:30 for free coffee and donuts (donuts during spring and summer months) . We have nursery care and children’s ministry during the service for babies through 5th grade. You can register them as early as 9:45.
We are located at 900 West New York Avenue, in Somers Point, NJ. You can park anywhere on the streets around our building or in the lot behind the church. Be sure to take advantage of our “Guest Parking” located conveniently near the front door. Handicap parking is available at the front entrance and at the Mission Point Kids entrance at the rear of the building. Here is a map (including parking areas), driving directions, or you may call us at 609.927.9328 for more personalized help.
Once you park there are signs, maps, and greeters located at each door. Our friendly greeters will be glad to direct you, answer your questions, or to escort you to any place you need.
We have excellent, safe children’s ministry programs that are designed to provide quality care and biblical instruction for your children. You can read more about the KidZone 1, KidZone 2, Preschool, Toddlers, and Baby classes or contact our Children’s Ministry Director, Corie Taylor ([email protected]) to get more information. You may register your children up to 15 minutes before the service. You and your child will be given identical tag numbers. If we need to contact you during the service the number will be called into our tech staff and your number will flash on the screen in the main auditorium. We believe you and your children will have a better time (and a more age-appropriate experience) in our Kids ministries, but we do understand that while you are checking us out you may feel more comfortable keeping your children with you. If so, please help us by being sensitive to those around you and by monitoring your child’s noise and distraction levels. We have a room on our lower level (Room #3) designated for nursing moms and their infants which has the sermon feed so you won’t miss a moment.
To pre-register your children, click here Park in the parking lot and enter through The Mission Point Kids entrance. Head down the stairs to Central Park and you will be greeted by one of our awesome volunteers. We will have your tags all ready for you and show you and your children to their classroom.
If you have a teenager, they are invited to attend Sunday worship service with you. Jr. High (6th, 7th & 8th Graders) meet in the lower level in Room 2 but will be dismissed from the service right before the sermon. We have many other student ministry opportunities for your teens throughout the week. Check out the ministry of Oneighty or contact our Pastor of Youth and Families, Rich Aspenberg. No. We want you to be able to come and enjoy the service as our guests. No one will single you out, put a sticker on you, ask you to speak, or force you to fill out any information about yourself. You will, however, be greeted by friendly people at our entrances and be invited (if you want to) to fill out just your basic information (access that form here ) If you fill this out you will receive a welcome letter and information about the church or ministries you express interest in OR you can use the kiosk at NEXT STEPS located in the café. We have a gift bag which includes a Mission Point Coffee Mug to thank you for joining us! No one will show up at your doorstep without an invitation! That’s our promise to you. We respect your privacy! NEXT STEPS is staffed by helpful people who will be glad to give you information about our church, programs, and ministry opportunities.
We attempt to provide music and teaching that is contemporary, interesting, and relevant to your life. You will usually experience about 20 minutes of music and singing, followed by some announcements that correspond to events posted in our bulletin, and then about 40 minutes of practical Bible teaching. We use many different translations of the Bible, but stick most often with the New Living Translation. You can following along with the notes and verses used by tapping the home button on this site and then tapping on the current sermon series shown on that page. We work hard to make sure that this often multi-media experience is engaging and informative for adults of all ages!
It does take money to run a church. Our books are open for anyone to see and a copy of our annual budget is available for your perusal. We know that giving is a godly spiritual habit, but money is not what we are about! We do take a collection during our worship service, but that collection is meant for our regular attendees and members. We routinely ask our guests and visitors to refrain from putting any money in the offering baskets but to simply let it pass them by during that portion of the service.
You have already found our website so just go back to Home and then tap "Events" You may also call the church office during the week (609.927.9328) and speak to our Campus Administrator, Patti Dowling ([email protected]) For other questions relating to spiritual needs, prayer requests, counseling, or other ministry related needs please do not hesitate to contact us.
