Pastor Rich Aspenberg
I grew up in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, where I was raised together with my two older brothers, Paul and Scott, by my wonderful parents, Glenn and Catrina Aspenberg. My father works and is co-owner of the family carpentry business (John A. Aspenberg & Sons). My mother works as the secretary for the company. God has blessed me with my wonderful wife, Misty. We met at a 20-something Bible Study, and got married a year and a half later on May 16, 2009. We currently have an amazing house and 2 wonderful daughters (Joie, born February, 2011 and Layla born May 15, 2013) and a son Judah. (Born on July 7, 2015)
I attended the Pilgrim Academy from kindergarten through 12th grade. After graduating from high school, I decided to attend Lancaster Bible College, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where I majored in Youth Ministry. During my four years at LBC, I had the wonderful opportunity to be an intern for four years in Lancaster County Bible Church’s Student Ministry. During my internship, I was mentored by Mike Harder (Senior High Pastor) and Jason Mitchell (Junior High Pastor), who not only mentored me, but gave me hands on experience as well. I have been the Director of Student Ministries here at Mission Point (formerly Calvary Bible Church) since September of 2003 and in 2016 was commissioned as Associate Pastor of Youth & Families and then on May 26th, 2019 I was appointed Senior Pastor after the retirement of Pastor James McCartney.
I enjoy the outdoors, where I can go hiking, backpacking, camping, snowboarding and bike riding. Sports in general are a passion of mine that I enjoy playing together with teenagers and friends alike (soccer, basketball, football, hockey, tennis, and pretty much any sport that someone wants to play, I’ll play with them!).
I was born and raised by my wonderful parents, who have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. As I was growing up, they taught me the Word of God and exemplified what they taught through their lifestyles. We went to church together every week, and they even enrolled me into a Christian school. I grew up knowing about the Bible and Jesus Christ, and I even thought that when I was a little kid I had accepted Jesus Christ to come and be the Lord and Savior of my life; but I was not sure, and my life style did not show it. It was not until I became a junior in high school that I took my relationship with Jesus Christ and made it real in my life. We had chapel every Monday at school, where we would have worship and a special speaker. That morning I was really questioning whether I had a relationship with God or not, and if I were to die that day would I be going to heaven or hell. So after chapel, I went to the men’s locker-room by myself, sat down, prayed, and asked Jesus to forgive me of my sins and to come and be my Savior and Lord of my life. That is when I believe my relationship with God truly began. Then, that summer of ’98, I went to the Creation Festivals in Pennsylvania and got baptized there.

I Love To
take road trips with Tommy and our friends, hang out with my family, cook and watch Gilmore Girls.
I was blessed to be raised by two faithful Christian parents and we attended Scullville Bible Church until I was in high school. I accepted Jesus into my heart at a very young age. My family was always very active in the church and lived life with our church family. Once I moved home from college I continued to be very active in church ministry. My early 20’s brought some ups and downs (more downs than ups) and it brought me to a place of a stronger commitment and knowledge that I can not do anything without Christ. I strive to show my son that our relationship with Christ is the most important thing and our service to him and to others is how we worship Him and show others His love. I truly believe that the strength of the church is rooted in the church family.
All for His glory.

Random Facts About Me
I was named after Halley’s comet. I’ve traveled to Thailand to work with elephants. I am fluent in Spanish. I am a 7w6 on the Enneagram test. I am totally an extrovert and love being around people!
My husband sustained a freak accident at the beach leaving him paralyzed. I learned to trust in Jesus on a whole other level and my faith became so much stronger since then. Life can be messy but God is SO faithful!! “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out it’s roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; it’s leaves are
always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8
I am married to Betty and we have lived in Ocean City for the past eight years. We have been attending Mission Point Church for the past three years. We both trusted in Christ for the forgiveness of sins and the gift and assurance of eternal life with Him on January 17, 1987. Through these past decades our prayers have been to be sensitive and obedient to the Holy Spirit's leading and direction in our lives. As a family, we have served in short terms missions in Africa and Central America. I have also been involved in prison ministry for the past 30 years. In our previous churches we served in children's and youth ministry, finance, small groups and leadership. I look forward to being a part of Mission Point Church's role in impacting eternity.
I was actually born here in Somers Point, but grew up in Marlton, NJ. My wife, Melissa, and I moved back to the area in 2009, and currently live in Ocean City.
Melissa and I met through Young Life back in 2001. We were married in Ocean City where we grew up coming every summer in 2005. We have four very active boys: Judah (August 2008), Levi (May 2011), Gideon (February 2014) and Ezra (August 2015).
I am an only child of two amazing parents. My Mom was known to always say that the Lord did not allow her to get pregnant until she gave her life to Christ. I began my journey with Jesus at the kitchen table with my parents in January of 1991 when I asked my Mom what it meant to be born again after reading the story of Jesus and Nicodemus in John 3 during family devotions:
“Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."” John 3:3 ESV
I remember even then being amazed that God would make me new just by asking him to come into my heart on a Sunday night at this little table in our house. I cherish that humble start almost 30 years ago that will take me to eternity. My Mom was an amazing woman of God who introduced me to the Lord, and what it meant to live for Christ. Fortunately, for her, she is already Home with the Father, and even in her early passing she lived her last days praising our Creator, and trusting in His perfect plan.
People who know me well, affectionately refer to me as a geek. I love science, and understanding how God designed our universe to bring glory to himself.
I went to Rutgers University and majored in Genetics.
During and after school I volunteered, and then worked for Young Life, which is a missionary organization that works with middle school, high school and college students.
I currently work in the medical industry in implantable cardiac devices.
Things That Make Me Happy
Driving and exploring new places with my wife, listening to my kids laugh, technology, movies, coffee and food
Spent the first twenty years of my life in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. We spent most of our summers down here at the shore. When I went into the Marines my family moved but I found them again ( Ha Ha ) and I’ve lived in Somers point since 1979.
I am blessed to be married to my best friend in life Tina. We have 4 children ; 3 girls and a boy who are all married to awesome sons and daughter in law. They have given us 9 beautiful grandkids ; 6 girls and 3 boys.
While on field operations in the outback of Australia a friend of witnessed to me and on the outcropping of a cliff looking over some of Gods awe inspiring landscape I gave my life to Christ. Years later after I followed my 14 year old son to Mission Point (called Calvary Bible then) I really discovered what a church was supposed to be and what Gods had called me to be and it has been an amazing ride ever since.
Punching the clock
The best job I’ve ever had is where I’ve been for the last 19 years with Burns Honda (Marlton NJ).
The worst job was with a computer company making cold calls to companies all day.
My favorite job is being a United States Marine (till the day I die)
I was consumed with high level windsurfing for almost 20 years but have since pulled away from that. I like golf and fishing. I love to kayak with my wife and play a mean game of horseshoes (maybe too mean as my ultra competitive spirit takes over). I grew up shooting in my back yard and have always enjoyed it and am hoping to start back into that soon.
What I can’t live without
No brainer here; my family means everything to me. I cherish every moment I get to spend with them.
What I could live without but don’t want to
Coffee ( I am a self professed coffee snob ), fresh seafood, movie nights with my wife.
Favorite times of the year
Christmas; mostly because it’s the time of the year when people do their best to act like there really is peace on earth and because I’ve never really forgotten what it felt like when as a kid Christmas was still a magical time to be alive.
Easter; first and foremost because it’s a celebration of everything we live for as children of Christ Jesus.
Secondly because every Easter we go to the Hatteras outer banks and spend a week with family and friends who are so important to us that they are family. We start the week with a sunrise service on the beach on Easter morning and the rest of the week we love, laugh, and live completely.
I was born in New York but moved to the greatest city on the earth, Pittsburgh, just 6 months later. I lived in Pittsburgh for about 24 years before moving to New Jersey. My wife actually grew up in Pittsburgh as well and we lived just 20 minutes from each other but didn’t meet until after we both moved to NJ.
My wife Karen and I met in March of 1990 while on our way with a young adult group from Praise Tabernacle to the greatest city on the planet (I mentioned that already didn’t I?) for a singles conference. We started hanging out for a few months before having our first “unofficial” date at a Pirates/Phillies game (pretty sure the Pirates won.) Anyway, we got engaged about 6 months later and then got married about 5 months after that in May 1991 (the same day the Pittsburgh Penguins won their first (of 5) Stanley Cups!) Are you sensing a pattern here? Anyway, we had our first child, Lauren, in November of 1992, our second child, Joshua, in February of 1995 and our third child, Caleb, on the 4th of July! Pretty sure we had him convinced everyone celebrated his birthday up until he was 5 or so. Lauren currently works out at the Tech Center as a Test Engineer, Joshua teaches English in Saudi Arabia, and Caleb works for Lockheed Martin up in Owego, NY as an Electrical Engineer and we couldn’t be more proud of the young men and woman they have become.
I grew up in a “Christian” household but basically that meant we went to church every Sunday morning and evening and Wednesday evening. My dad acted like a Christian when we were at church but not so much at home. My mom was a Christian but was just really starting to grow in her faith. I viewed Christian men as wimps until my older brother, who I thought was the coolest person in the world, became a Christian. That really started to change my view and one day when I was 15 I knew the Lord was prompting me to accept Him as my Lord and Savior. I started drawing closer to Lord that day and never looked back. While being truly committed to the Lord though, I really didn’t spend much time getting to know Him or His word. That all changed back in 2013 when I started to take online courses for a degree in Biblical Studies. While it’s taken me quite a few years, it has been a fantastic experience and I will be graduating in 2020. My desire was and still is to understand Him and His word more and to be able to help others do the same.
I love to play all sports. This year (2019) would have been my 41st straight year playing softball but a little thing like getting my knee replaced kind of broke that streak. I plan to be back next year though!
As you can probably tell I am a HUGE Pittsburgh sports fan. I love watching and going to any Pittsburgh sporting event.
I love hanging out with my kids whenever they’re home (also with our dog Malu).
