GENESIS Week Five

The Tree of Life

Pastor Rich

Genesis 2:4-17

V4 “These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens. V5 When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up - for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground, V6 and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground - V7 then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. V8 And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. V9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food.  The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good of evil.

Tree of Life

Genesis 3:22 “Then the Lord God said, ‘Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil.  Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever - 23 therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken.”

Revelation 2:7 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.”

Revelation 22:1-5Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him.

Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates.”

Revelations 22:19 “and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.”

Genesis 2

V10-14 “A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and there it divided and became four rivers. The name of the first is the Pishon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 And the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there. 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Cush. 14 And the name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.”

Genesis 2

V15 “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.

2Thessalonians 3:6,10-12

6”Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us. 10For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. 11 For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. 12 Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.”

Genesis 3:17-19 “And to Adam he said,

“Because you have listened to the voice of your wife

     and have eaten of the tree

of which I commanded you,

    ‘You shall not eat of it,’

cursed is the ground because of you;

    in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;

18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you;

    and you shall eat the plants of the field.

19 By the sweat of your face

    you shall eat bread,

till you return to the ground,

    for out of it you were taken;

for you are dust,

    and to dust you shall return.”

What has God given you that He is calling you to cultivate, to use, to work and not neglect?

Genesis 2

V16-17 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal

life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

James 1:15 “Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when

it is fully grown brings forth death.
