ELDER

My Role:

I accepted my call to the elder team in 2003. At the time I understood my role as far as what our responsibilities were but was quite surprised by the depth of emotional investment, I’ve experienced with so many of our flock over the years. The accountability and brotherhood shared within the team itself is also something that resembles a seatbelt in my walk. Other roles I’ve served in have been the small group leader training, men’s recovery leader, small group leader and building maintenance.

My Story:

I grew up in the suburbs outside Philadelphia. We would spend most of our summers in either Ocean City or Stone Harbor. After high school I served in the Marine Corps for 4 years and during that time my family moved away but I did find them again (ha ha). They relocated to Somers Point and I’ve been here

ever since. In 1983 I was blessed to get married to my best friend in life Tina. We have 3 daughters and a son who have blessed us with 10 amazing grandchildren. While on a training operation in the outback of Australia I reconnected with a friend from boot camp. He was so on fire for the lord. After listening to him tell me how much his life had changed overlooking some of the most beautiful land God ever created, I gave my life to Christ. Fast forward about 25 years of living a life that had splashes of evidence that God was driving my bus and we find a note on our bedside table saying our son wants to get baptized at a church he has been hanging out at because the youth pastor had a skate ministry. I told my wife I wanted to check out a service to be sure they weren’t some kind of a cult. The next week I got her to come and we still haven’t left. Coming to Mission Point which was Calvary Bible then woke me out of a deep sleep and allowed me to truly realize what it was to fully embrace the Holy Spirits voice.

Passions:

To echo something, we always say on the elder team “our first ministry is always our family”. So, I’m going to confess that my biggest passion is my family. I know that the greatest gift God has given me is my salvation and while I do have a passion for our church to become a haven for lost people who don’t yet know of him, I’m honest enough to know that my wife and family are what gets me up every day. I love God and love doing his work and feel so blessed to be an adopted son in his family. Other things that float my boat are playing cornhole, fishing, shooting at the range, movies with my wife and game nights with friends, camping with friends and family and kayaking.
